Thought for the Day Friday 1st May

Apology I am sorry there was no thought posted for Wednesday. I had a Migraine attack on Thursday and my only thought was: “My head hurts”. Because of this, I will post Friday’s thought on Friday, and I will attempt to keep up posting the ‘Thought for the Day’ on the day I think of it, rather than on the next day.

This morning I attended a meeting of Baptist Ministers in Wales (on Zoom, not in the flesh). Together we looked at that passage in Luke 24 known as “The Road to Emmaus”. I was particularly struck by the end of the passage, after the two travellers have realised that they have been talking with Jesus.

“They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem.”

It was getting dark before they sat down and broke bread with Jesus. The roads were dangerous at night. With no streetlights you might fall and injure yourself, you might fall into the hands of thieves. As a general rule people avoided travelling at night. But these two people were so excited, so taken up with the fact that they had met with the risen Jesus, that they felt that they had to go at once and share what they had seen and heard with the disciples.

This made me think: When was the last time I was so excited about a meeting with Jesus that I had to rush out and share the news with someone? My first thought was that it was a long time ago. Then I realised this answer was not quite true. Week by week as I prepare to lead worship on a Sunday, I hear the voice of the Spirit guiding me, and although I may have to wait until Sunday before I have the opportunity to share what was revealed, I am sharing something that has excited me during my preparation.

On other occasions as we share in the Bible Study, something someone says excites me and when I get home, I may Skype a friend to share the thing that has excited me.

In fact, as I am writing this, I am sharing a truth that excited me this morning, and as I think about it more it continues to excite me.

When was the last time you left a service or a meeting, or finished your own personal devotions, and felt excited because you had met with Jesus?

Who did you share your excitement with?

Next time you have such an encounter with Jesus, make sure you share it with someone – it may be a real encouragement to them.
