From the Minister

Thought for the Day Monday 28th April

As I follow my daily reading scheme, today I have been reading the well known story of Gideonís defeat of the Midianites. (You will find it in Judges chapter 7).

Gideon starts off with 32 thousand men. God whittles this down to 300 before Gideon and his army go into battle.

The reason God does this is given in verse 2. It is so that the Israelites cannot boast against God that they have delivered themselves by the strength of their own hand.

With only 300 men God gives the victory to Gideon.

The message that I take from the passage, is that it is in our weakness that God is glorified.

Many are troubled by the seeming decline of the church in the nation; it appears that we are becoming weaker and weaker. Maybe this is not a thing for us to be distressed about, but an opportunity for God, in his strength and power, to be glorified as he does a great work in the land.

When revival comes, no-one in the church will be able to claim that it was done through their programme, or their idea, or their initiatives. As God uses the weak and flawed vessel of his church he will be glorified, and in revival it will be the name of Jesus that is lifted high.
