From the Minister

Thought for the Day Holy Tuesday 7th April

On the Tuesday of the first Holy Week, Jesus spent much time in the Temple disputing with the chief priests and the elders. He also argued with Herodians, the Pharisees and the Sadducees. Amongst all of this he taught the people. Towards the end of the day along with his disciples, he leaves the temple courts and goes up onto the mount of Olives.

It is there that the disciples ask the question: “What will be the signs of your coming and the end of the age?”

This is a question that has been asked by many over the years and many have provided false answers to it. There are still many who are taken up with the questions: “When and how will the world end”. In the bits of the first three gospels known as the ‘Olivet Discourse’ Jesus does not quite answer the questions but he does give some clues.

There will be wars and rumours of wars, there will be famine and earthquakes, there will be many false prophets proclaiming that they are Jesus. We may look for these things and when we see them we will know that the end is nigh.

When Jesus returns it will be like lightening in the sky, everyone will see it, nobody will be in any doubt.

For me none of the above is of much importance. What is important, is that the day and the hour are unknown, and that with each passing minute the time of the end is drawing closer. When it arrives, will I be found doing the Master’s business? Sometimes I can be a master of procrastination. I can easily put off until tomorrow what I should be doing today, and I can always be just about to pray – as soon as I have finished what I am doing.

Lord Jesus, thank you for the reminder that you will come again in glorious victory. Help me to be found doing your business not just at that hour, but in every hour. Amen

After a short illness Stephen died in hospital. Please pray for Chris and the family at this time.
The Prime Minister is still in intensive care.
