Thought for the Day Monday 6th April

MONDAY 6th APRIL

It is the Monday of Holy Week and I have been reading about what Jesus did on that day.

In all four gospels we are given the account of Jesus clearing the temple. In Luke’s account Jesus remains and teaches the people, in Matthew’s account we read of the blind and lame coming to Jesus to find healing.

Today Jesus is still at work doing the same things. In Corinthians we read that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. In Jerusalem Jesus drove out the money lenders and the traders, saying that they had made the house of God a “den of robbers”. There are two aspects of this robbery. There is the dishonesty of the traders robbing those who come to worship, but there is also the aspect of robbing God of the place where he has put his presence, a place where the people can come and meet with him.

Today we do not have to go to a special place to find the presence of God. It is promised to all who believe that the Holy Spirit of God will live within us; we come to Jesus Emmanuel (God with us). That is why our bodies have become temples, and I pray that just as Jesus cleared the temple of Jerusalem of all that defiled it – so he will clear this body of mine, both physically and in mind and heart, in order to make it a fit dwelling place for the living God.

One other thought: the blind and lame came to Jesus and found healing. The Jesus we worship is still a God of healing – let us come with however little faith we have and seek his healing of our bodies. Some will find healing and some will not, and I have no idea why – but I do know that both those who find healing and those who do not will all be blessed, because no-one turns to Jesus without finding a blessing.

PRAYER
May Jesus work his will in us, that we may truly love him with all our hearts, our souls, our strength and mind. Amen
