From the Minister

April, 2020

Thought for the Day Friday 3rd April

‘Behold I am making all things new’. Revelation 21:5

Put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:24

During the lockdown Vanessa and I have been getting on with decorating the living room.

We took down the tired but acceptable looking wall-paper, leaving a wall that looked a mess. I then did the repairs to the plasterwork, after which the wall looked even more of a mess.

After all the preparation we repainted the wall, and now it looks almost as good as new.

As I sat looking at the wall through its various phases of transformation, I got to thinking about the verse in Revelation, ‘Behold I make all things new’, and thought in some ways this experience of decoration reflected the work that God was doing in our lives. He peals off the respectable looking veneer, revealing to us the stains of our wrong-doing and then gently rebuilds us until one day when all things are made new we shall be a true reflection of Jesus.

Parts of our Easter celebrations are a reminder of that fact – spring flowers and Easter eggs remind us of new life.

May we rejoice and enjoy the new life that Jesus is creating in us.
