From the Minister

April, 2020

Thought for the Day Thursday 2nd April

A verse from my daily readings:
‘The LORD is my strength and my defence; he has become my salvation.’ Psalm118:14

I have for the last few weeks as part of my prayer life been following the Celtic daily prayers, produced by the Northumbria community.

In the prayers for Monday night there are some ‘circle prayers’. Circle prayers are part of an ancient tradition of prayer. In your imagination you turn a full circle imagining that you are drawing a circle around yourself. You then pray for what you want to be with you inside the circle and pray for what you want to away from you outside the circle.

I will share with you three from ’Celtic Night Prayer.’ And then a couple of my own, try it for yourself you may find it helpful at this time.

Circle me, Lord,
keep protection near
and danger afar.

Circle me, Lord,
keep light near
and darkness afar.

Circle me, Lord,
keep peace within,
keep evil out.

Circle me, Lord,
keep worry and anxiety out,
keep your peace within.

Circle me, Lord,
keep loneliness and the feeling of isolation out,
keep the experience and comfort of your presence within.

Give thanks that Rev Dr Michael Collis has come through his operation and is now recovering in hospital.
